Bernie Sheff
Vice President - Renewable Energy
ES Engineering Services

Bernie Sheff holds both Bachelors and Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University. He has been a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan since 1988 and is also registered in the states of Massachusetts, Ohio and Indiana. He started his career with STS Consultants (STS) in 1984 as an assistant project engineer. When he later became the VP of the Michigan region for STS, he completed his first digestion project at a 1 MGD wastewater treatment facility in 1991. This facility, also a large beef abattoir in SW Michigan, was one of many his projects in the animal processing arena including digesters at duck, chicken and hog operations.
Since early 2000 he has focused on nutrient recovery, sand separation and digestion in the agricultural market, most significantly the dairy industry and the co-digestion of residuals from confined feeding operations and food processing residuals. After a 3 year stint on the Board of Directors for the American Biogas Council, in November of 2014 Bernie was elected as Chairman of the Board. In 2015, he became Vice President of Engineering for ES Engineering, Inc. ABC staff calls him "the Wolf," a reference to Harvey Keitel's character from Pulp Fiction, because when all goes wrong at a digester, Bernie often gets the call to parachute in, clean things up and get the system up to full throttle again.
